Legal  Provisions

For exhaust air streams containing volatile organic compounds, the statutory provisions and regulations form the basis for selecting the appropriate process for reducing these emissions.

The following legal texts are particularly relevant in connection with exhaust air purification:
  • "Federal Immission Control Act": (BImSchG for short); serves primarily as the official assessment basis for approval procedures and the operation of systems that cause air pollution, noise, vibrations and similar environmental impacts.
  • "31st Federal Immission Control Ordinance": (short: 31st BImSchV); serves as an official assessment basis for approval procedures and the operation of systems that specifically emit volatile compounds (VOC). Concrete, industry-specific limit values are listed here.
  • "Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control": (TA Luft for short); in addition to the 31st BImSchV, this specifies limit values for carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic substances ( R-phrases) that must be complied with.
  • "ATEX Directive": It defines the rules for placing on the market and handling products that are used in potentially explosive atmospheres.
